New York Mayor Eric Adams expressed gratitude following the averted crisis
A coordinated effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the New York Police Department (NYPD) successfully prevented a potential school shooting at Benjamin Cardozo High School located in Queens, New York, on Thursday (local time). The operation resulted in the apprehension of a 16-year-old student who was discovered carrying a loaded firearm.
The potential threat came to light after an anonymous tip was received by the FBI's National Threat Operations Center, which prompted immediate action and deployment to the school premises.
NYPD officers collaborated with FBI agents to locate and detain the student without any confrontation, subsequently discovering the loaded weapon in the student's possession.
The FBI's New York field office released a statement on X confirming the incident, stating, "Earlier today, the FBI informed @NYPDnews of a threat to life involving the Benjamin Cardozo High School in Queens. The NYPD deployed to the high school to address this potential threat, which led to a successful outcome. FBI Director Kash Patel provided additional details about the operation, saying, "Earlier today, the FBI's National Threat Operations Center received a tip regarding a potential school shooting at Benjamin Cardozo High School in New York City. Based on a quick response by the NYPD and FBI personnel, a student was arrested with a loaded firearm. The FBI will continue to work tirelessly to protect our children.
