Russia Demands Clarification on Trump's Nuclear Testing Plans as Tensions Rise

Russia has requested clarification from the United States regarding President Donald Trump's recent statements about potentially resuming nuclear testing, emphasizing that such action would provoke significant reactions from other nations.

During a news briefing in Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova expressed this concern, highlighting the gravity of the situation.

Last week, Trump directed the US military to immediately reinstate nuclear weapons testing procedures after a 33-year moratorium. However, there remains ambiguity about whether Trump was specifically referring to nuclear-explosive testing (typically conducted by the National Nuclear Security Administration) or flight testing of missiles with nuclear capabilities.

In response to this uncertainty surrounding American intentions, President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday instructed senior officials to develop proposals for Russia to potentially conduct its own nuclear test should the United States proceed with testing.

It's worth noting that Russia has not performed any nuclear tests since the Soviet Union dissolved in 1991. Currently, Russia and the United States maintain the world's largest arsenals of nuclear weapons.
