King Charles III has formally removed his brother Andrew Mountbatten Windsor's royal title of Prince.
American lawmakers sent a letter to Britain's disgraced former prince Andrew on Thursday requesting an interview regarding his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
This request comes as King Charles III officially stripped his younger brother of his titles following last week's announcement that Andrew was being expelled from the monarchy.
The letter, signed by sixteen Democratic members of Congress, asks Andrew to participate in a "transcribed interview" with the House of Representatives oversight committee investigating Epstein, who died by suicide in 2019 while facing sex trafficking charges.
"The committee aims to identify Mr. Epstein's co-conspirators and enablers and to comprehend the complete scope of his criminal operations," stated the letter.
"Well-documented allegations against you, along with your extended friendship with Mr. Epstein, suggest you may possess information about his activities relevant to our investigation."
The letter requests Andrew, now known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, to respond by November 20.
It was signed by Democrats who currently hold a minority position in the House. It's worth noting that US Congress lacks authority to compel testimony from foreign nationals, making Andrew's participation unlikely.
A representative for the former prince did not immediately respond when AFP requested comment.
Recently released emails by the committee and a posthumous memoir by Andrew's sexual assault accuser Virginia Giuffre have reignited British public outrage over Andrew's connections to Epstein.
This culminated in King Charles deciding to remove all of Andrew's royal titles and honors while announcing his eviction from his 30-room mansion on the royal Windsor estate, west of London.
Charles has officially implemented these changes through an announcement published Wednesday in The Gazette, the United Kingdom's official public record.
Andrew has consistently denied sexually abusing Giuffre, who alleged she was trafficked to have sexual relations with him on three occasions, twice when she was only 17 years old.
After she filed a lawsuit against him, he paid a multi-million-pound settlement in 2022 without admitting any wrongdoing.
Giuffre, who held both US and Australian citizenship, died by suicide at her Australian residence in April.
