A heart-wrenching story from Henan province in central China has captivated millions online, showcasing the profound bond between a mother and her departed son. The mother was filmed kissing the gravestone of her three-year-old son Jubao, a moment that has deeply touched internet users worldwide according to South China Morning Post (SCMP).
The mother revealed she specifically selected a spacious burial site near her home to allow her son to "play freely" in his final resting place.
Jubao suffered from a rare genetic condition resulting from an ARX gene mutation, which caused infantile spasms and developmental disabilities. Medical professionals diagnosed his incurable condition in June 2021.
Determined to help her child, the devoted mother sought medical assistance throughout China, investing approximately two million yuan ($280,000) on treatments. She made significant personal sacrifices, including putting her career on hold and dividing her attention from her older son to care for Jubao, who required 27 separate admissions to the Intensive Care Unit.
Following Jubao's passing in April 2023, the mother struggled with her grief. Initially visiting his grave almost every day, she later reduced her visits to two or three times monthly.
In touching video footage, she can be seen kissing Jubao's photograph on the gravestone while gently saying, "Mama is here," repeatedly—a testament to her enduring maternal love.
The mother brings snacks to share with her son's memory and spends time in conversation at his grave. She lovingly comments on how unhealthy these treats are and praises him for sharing with other children who succumbed to the same illness. According to reports, she describes these interactions as "teaching him some lessons about life in the other world."
Her poignant displays of affection have struck a chord with many viewers, emphasizing the unbreakable connection between parent and child. The video has accumulated over 390,000 likes and thousands of comments on Chinese social media platforms, with numerous users commending her dedication and sacrifice.
One commenter noted, "She was obsessive about her son, but as a parent, I understand her completely."
Another sympathetic user wrote, "Perhaps nagging him at his grave is her way of finding solace."
