Norway's Future Queen Breaks Her Silence On Half Brother's Rape And Abuse Charges

During a recent interview with Norwegian broadcaster NRK, Princess Ingrid Alexandra described the situation surrounding her half-brother's rape and abuse allegations as "difficult" for all involved parties, including her family and the victims.

The Princess, who holds second position in the line of succession after her father Crown Prince Haakon, stated, "Of course it's difficult. Both for those of us who are around, for me as a sister, and for mom and dad. And of course for everyone affected by the case."

When questioned about being at university in Sydney, Australia during this challenging period, she chose not to elaborate further, saying, "Yes, it is... I don't know if I want to go into it much more than that."

Crown Prince Haakon previously addressed the situation in August, characterizing it as "challenging and difficult" for everyone involved while affirming the royal family's commitment to continuing their official duties.

Marius Borg Hoiby, 28, is Crown Princess Mette-Marit's son from a relationship prior to her marriage to Crown Prince Haakon. Though part of the royal family's life, he holds no royal title or official responsibilities.

In August 2025, the state attorney general brought 32 criminal charges against him, including four counts of rape, domestic violence, and assault involving multiple women, including a former girlfriend. The alleged rapes occurred in 2018, 2023, and 2024, with the most recent taking place after police investigations had begun. Additional charges include filming women's genitals without consent.

Further allegations against Hoiby encompass domestic abuse against a former partner and multiple counts of violence, peace disturbance, vandalism, and violations of restraining orders against another ex-partner.

While denying the most serious allegations, Hoiby has admitted to some lesser offenses, such as specific acts of violence. His criminal trial is scheduled for February 2026 at the Oslo district court.

Ten days following his arrest, Hoiby released a public statement acknowledging he had acted "under the influence of alcohol and cocaine after an argument," explaining he had been dealing with "mental troubles" and had "struggled for a long time with substance abuse."

Princess Ingrid Alexandra, as the eldest child of Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit, is positioned to become Norway's first reigning queen since Queen Margaret in the 15th century. Currently studying Social Sciences with a focus on international relations and political economy at the University of Sydney, she recently completed 15 months of military service with the Engineer Battalion in Brigade North, serving as a gunner on a CV-90 infantry fighting vehicle.

The Princess has already begun undertaking official duties, representing the Royal Family at various ceremonies and state events.
