Elon Musk Mocks Zohran Mamdani and Endorses Andrew Cuomo in Critical New York Mayoral Race

Elon Musk has publicly endorsed independent candidate Andrew Cuomo while simultaneously mocking Democratic contender Zohran Mamdani just hours before New York's mayoral election.

As New Yorkers prepare to cast their votes on November 4, the Tesla CEO took to social media platform X to share his political stance, deliberately misspelling Mamdani's name in what many users considered a disparaging manner.

"Remember to vote tomorrow in New York," Musk posted. "Bear in mind that a vote for Curtis is really a vote for Mumdumi or whatever his name is. Vote Cuomo!"

The upcoming election will feature a three-way race between independent candidate Andrew Cuomo, Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani, and Republican Curtis Sliwa.

Musk's controversial endorsement sparked immediate backlash from X users. One commenter criticized it as "a cheap shot from a South African immigrant," while another suggested that "names that aren't white or billionaire-adjacent must short-circuit your apartheid-brain wiring."

Other responses included predictions that Musk's attempt to influence the election might backfire, with one user thanking him for "ensuring Zohran Mamdani gets elected as the new Mayor of New York tomorrow."

The billionaire's endorsement came shortly after former US President Donald Trump also publicly supported Cuomo while harshly criticizing Mamdani, whom he labeled a "communist" and a "complete and total failure."

In his Truth Social post, Trump warned of potential "economic and social disaster" under Mamdani's leadership and threatened to withhold federal funding for New York City should he win. Trump echoed Musk's sentiment that voting for Republican Sliwa would effectively split the vote and benefit Mamdani.

According to the New York City Board of Elections, over 735,000 early ballots have already been cast. While Mamdani continues to lead in polls, Cuomo—running as an independent after failing to secure the Democratic nomination—has significantly narrowed the gap as election day approaches.
