Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, the sole survivor of the devastating Air India crash in June, has revealed to UK media the immense psychological and physical suffering he has experienced since the catastrophic event in Ahmedabad.
In interviews broadcast and published on Monday, Ramesh described the months following the disaster as "very difficult." The tragic crash claimed 241 passengers on the London-bound aircraft and 19 individuals on the ground.
The British citizen residing in Leicester, central England, miraculously escaped the wreckage but lost his brother in the accident.
"God gave me life but took all my happiness, and from my family," the 39-year-old shared with Britain's Press Association news agency.
"It completely brought down my family... It's very difficult for me and my family."
He spoke of his brother Ajay with profound grief, stating he "was my strength" and "my everything."
The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed on June 12 shortly after departing from Ahmedabad in western India, colliding with a medical college.
India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) released a preliminary investigation report indicating that fuel to the jet's engines was cut off moments before impact, though it offered no definitive conclusions or attribution of responsibility for the tragedy.
Last month, it was reported that the father of one of the pilots requested India's highest court for an independent investigation, contending that the official inquiry was unfairly placing blame on the flight crew.
During his interviews with several British broadcasters, Ramesh was hesitant to discuss the crash, describing it as still "very painful."
"I get flashbacks all the time. I just stay awake, I sleep maybe three to four hours," he told PA.
In his BBC interview, Ramesh revealed he experiences pain in his leg, shoulder, knee, and back, and has been unable to work or drive since the incident.
"When I walk, not walk properly, slowly, slowly, my wife help," he added.
His advisers informed the BBC that while he was diagnosed with PTSD during his hospital treatment in India, he has not received any medical care since returning to the UK.
