A nine-month-old infant has lost their life after being attacked by a dog in a residence located in south east Wales, according to BBC reports. Emergency response teams were dispatched to a property on Crossway in the village of Rogiet, Wales, at approximately 6 pm on Sunday, November 2. Gwent Police have confirmed that the dog involved has been seized and removed from the premises, while investigations into its breed are still ongoing. No individuals have been arrested in relation to this incident at present.
In an official statement, Gwent Police said, "We received a report of a dog attack in an address in Crossway, Rogiet around 6pm on Sunday 2 November. Officers attended along with paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service. A nine-month-old baby was pronounced dead at the scene. The dog has been seized and removed from the property."

The incident has left the local community in a state of shock and grief, with residents expressing their disbelief regarding the child's death. They reported witnessing significant police and ambulance presence on the typically quiet residential street where the tragedy occurred.
Peter Strong, the Rogiet county councillor, described the village as being "in mourning" following this heartbreaking event.
One community member wrote: "My heart is bleeding for all affected by what has happened this evening in Rogiet. Praying hard for those affected." Another resident expressed: "Absolutely heartbreaking, thoughts are with the family."
Dog attacks in the UK have become an increasing concern, with a notable number of fatalities and injuries reported in recent years. Data shows that 10 deaths were attributed to dog attacks across the UK in 2022.
Between 2019 and 2023, multiple fatal dog attacks were documented involving breeds such as American Bully XL, Rottweiler, and Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Additional breeds implicated in deadly attacks include Pit Bull-type dogs. Statistics indicate that children under 5 years of age and adults over 75 years old represent the demographic groups most vulnerable to fatal dog attacks.
