Florida authorities are currently searching for an individual who redefined the concept of a "masked robber" by donning scuba diving equipment instead of traditional disguises. This innovative thief executed a late-night robbery at Paddlefish restaurant in Orlando's Disney Springs complex. The unusual incident occurred shortly after midnight on Monday at the popular seafood establishment, which operates from a stationary steamboat in the Disney-owned entertainment district.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office reported that the suspect entered the premises after business hours, stole cash, and departed. The entire operation took merely two minutes. "The incident happened after the restaurant had closed, with no customers present," confirmed the sheriff's office. Fortunately, no one sustained injuries.
According to details published in Rare, the suspect apparently approached the venue by swimming in complete scuba gear before partially removing it and proceeding to the manager's office. Staff members who were counting daily receipts stated that the intruder instructed them to close their eyes and restrained their hands, though no weapons were displayed during the encounter.
Reports indicate he departed within minutes, escaping with a sum between $10,000 and $20,000.
Police have released an image showing the suspect equipped with goggles, wetsuit, gloves, and a scuba hood. Employees additionally described him wearing a blue beanie and form-fitting blue attire.
Investigators believe the perpetrator may have discharged spray paint at a security camera before escaping. They theorize he swam away from the location with the stolen funds.
The investigation continues as deputies encourage anyone with relevant information to contact authorities. While Paddlefish management has refrained from commenting, the restaurant resumed normal operations the following day.
Local residents expressed amazement at the peculiar robbery. "It's just absurd—how will they ever locate this individual?" remarked Jeanne Rose to WESH.
According to Vice, Paddlefish represents one of Disney Springs' signature dining establishments, attracting thousands of visitors daily for shopping and culinary experiences. Opening in 2017, the restaurant features specialty items like lobster corn dogs and crab fries, plus a rooftop bar offering waterfront views.
