Trump Declines Tomahawk Missile Deal for Ukraine: "Not Really Considering" Despite NATO Discussions

Tomahawk missiles possess a striking range of 2,500 km, sufficient to reach deep within Russian territory, including Moscow.

United States President Donald Trump indicated on Sunday that he is currently not pursuing an agreement that would enable Ukraine to acquire long-range Tomahawk missiles for deployment against Russia.

Trump has expressed reservation regarding a proposed plan for the United States to sell Tomahawks to NATO members who would subsequently transfer them to Ukraine, citing concerns about potential escalation of the conflict.

His recent statements to journalists aboard Air Force One suggest he maintains his hesitancy on the matter.

"No, not really," Trump responded to reporters while traveling from Palm Beach, Florida to Washington, when questioned about considering a deal to sell the missiles. However, he added that his position might change in the future.

Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte discussed the Tomahawk proposal during their meeting at the White House on October 22. Rutte stated on Friday that the matter remains under evaluation and that the decision ultimately rests with the United States.

With their 2,500 km (1,550 miles) range capability, Tomahawk missiles could potentially strike targets deep within Russian territory, including the capital city of Moscow.

While Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has requested these missiles, the Kremlin has issued warnings against any provision of Tomahawks to Ukraine.
