Trump Threatens Potential US Military Intervention in Nigeria Over Christian Persecution

President Donald Trump has indicated possible US military deployment or air strikes in Nigeria to address the persecution of Christians, following the country's addition to the "Countries of Particular Concern" list for religious freedom violations. Trump stated he "would not allow" the continued killing of Christians in the West African nation, raising international concerns about potential US military intervention in Africa's most populous country.

Could Be: Trump On Presence Of US Troops In Nigeria, Air Strikes

Nigeria has been included on the list of nations violating religious freedoms according to the Trump administration.

President Donald Trump indicated on Sunday that the United States might deploy military troops to Nigeria or conduct air strikes to address what he described as the mass killing of Christians in the West African nation.

When questioned about the possibility of ground troops or air strikes in Nigeria, Trump responded to reporters on Air Force One: "Could be. I mean, other things. I envisage a lot of things. They're killing record numbers of Christians in Nigeria... They're killing the Christians and killing them in very large numbers. We're not going to allow that to happen."

The President made these remarks on Sunday evening while returning to Washington after spending the weekend at his Florida vacation residence.

On Saturday, Trump had threatened military action against Nigeria if the most populous country in Africa failed to stop the persecution of Christians.

This threat came just one day after his administration reinstated Nigeria to the "Countries of Particular Concern" list, which identifies nations the United States considers to have violated religious freedoms. Other countries on this list include China, Myanmar, North Korea, Russia and Pakistan.
