Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has made a significant declaration during his visit to the Iranian Atomic Energy Organisation in Tehran, asserting that Iran will reconstruct its nuclear facilities damaged by Israeli and US military operations with enhanced resilience.
On Sunday, the Iranian leadership publicly committed to rebuilding nuclear sites that were damaged during recent military strikes, emphasizing that these reconstructed facilities would be "stronger than before." This statement comes as Oman, acting as mediator, has encouraged both Tehran and Washington to revitalize diplomatic efforts that have stalled.
While US President Donald Trump has claimed that the strikes completely destroyed Iran's nuclear program, the actual extent of damage inflicted remains unclear.
During his visit to the country's nuclear organization, President Pezeshkian stated firmly, "We will build the destroyed sites stronger than before." He further emphasized, "By destroying buildings, we will not be set back," highlighting that Iranian scientists retain the essential nuclear knowledge and expertise despite physical damage to facilities.
Pezeshkian did not provide specific details about reconstruction plans. It's worth noting that before the strikes occurred, he had made similar statements in February, indicating that Tehran would rebuild any sites that came under attack.
Israel initiated an unprecedented bombing campaign against Iran in June, which evolved into a 12-day conflict. During this period, Israel targeted nuclear and military facilities, as well as residential areas, resulting in the deaths of numerous top scientists.
Iran responded with barrages of ballistic missiles aimed at Israeli cities.
In July, after the United States announced a cessation of hostilities, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi acknowledged that the damage inflicted on Iran was "serious and severe."
Pezeshkian's recent statements coincided with a diplomatic initiative from Oman, Iran's traditional intermediary, which on Saturday urged both countries to resume talks.
At the IISS Manama Dialogue conference in Bahrain, Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi expressed, "We want to return to the negotiations between Iran and the United States."
Iranian government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani revealed on Sunday that Tehran "has received messages" regarding the resumption of diplomatic efforts, though she did not provide additional information.
Earlier this year, Oman hosted five rounds of US-Iran discussions. Just three days before a planned sixth round, Israel launched its strikes against Iran's nuclear facilities.
Since these events, Iran has faced the reinstatement of UN sanctions after Britain, Germany, and France activated the "snapback" mechanism, citing Tehran's alleged non-compliance with the 2015 nuclear agreement.
