US Vice President JD Vance embraced internet humor by recreating the viral 'fat JD' meme during Halloween festivities.
Facing backlash over comments about his wife's faith, US Vice President JD Vance shifted focus by humorously embracing an internet joke at his own expense on Halloween. Vance shared a selfie on social media sporting a curly brown wig that mimicked the viral 'fat JD' meme, quickly garnering millions of views across platforms.
On his Instagram account, Vance released a short video showcasing his complete Halloween costume. The footage, recorded at the Naval Observatory residence, features Vance answering the door in a dark suit with a red tie, cheerfully greeting trick-or-treaters: "Happy Halloween everyone, remember to say thank you while you trick or treat!"
This line cleverly referenced the popular "you didn't say thank you" meme. The video continues with Vance spinning dramatically under purple lighting while the eerie "Twilight Zone" theme plays in the background.
The White House also participated in the joke by reposting Vance's selfie with the caption: "Make sure you say thank you".

'This Was Funny'
As Vance's Halloween post spread across social media, users responded with amusement, with many commending the Vice President for his good-natured approach to the meme.
"Having a VP that isn't soft is awesome," commented one user, while another remarked: "Okay, I will give you this. This was indeed funny."
Another social media user expressed: "He did it. He actually did it. We live in the greatest time in history."
The "fat JD" meme originated following a tense White House meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in February earlier this year. Internet users began circulating manipulated images of Vance featuring an exaggerated round face and wild, curly hair, accompanied by captions such as "you didn't say please" or "you didn't say thank you," intended to mock him.
Earlier on Friday (Oct 31), Vance had addressed criticism over comments he made regarding his wife Usha Vance's religion. In a passionate post on X, Vance described the backlash as "disgusting" and explained that while he recognized questions about his interfaith marriage as personal, he wouldn't avoid them given his position as a "public figure".
