JD Vance Expresses Hope for Hindu-Raised Wife's Conversion to Christianity While Respecting Religious Differences

US Vice President JD Vance has shared his hope that his Hindu-raised wife Usha might someday embrace Christianity, while emphasizing respect for her free will and religious choices. Speaking at a Turning Point USA event, Vance discussed balancing their interfaith family dynamic, raising Christian children, and the importance of religious values in America amid growing concerns about religious intolerance and anti-Indian sentiment.

'I Do Wish': JD Vance Hopes His Hindu-Raised Wife Converts To Christianity

US Vice President JD Vance has expressed hope that his Hindu-raised wife, Usha Vance, might someday embrace Christianity while speaking at a Turning Point USA event in Mississippi on Wednesday.

"Most Sundays, Usha accompanies me to church. As I've mentioned to her, stated publicly, and will now say before 10,000 of my closest friends - do I hope that eventually she might be moved by the same experience that moved me in church? Yes, I honestly do wish that because I believe in the Christian gospel and hope my wife eventually comes to see it the same way," Vance remarked when questioned about whether Usha would "come to Christ."

He further clarified that his wife's faith "doesn't create a problem" for him.

"If she doesn't convert, God grants everyone free will, so it doesn't cause an issue for me. That's something you resolve with friends, family, and the person you love," Vance explained.

The Republican leader converted to Catholicism in 2019 and acknowledged that when he met his wife, he identified as agnostic or atheist. However, their children are being raised Christian and attend a Christian school.

Emphasizing faith in his remarks, Vance stated, "I make no apologies for believing Christian values form an important foundation of this country," while addressing a question about separation of church and state. "Anyone claiming their perspective is neutral likely has an agenda. I'm at least honest about believing the Christian foundation of this country is beneficial."

These comments emerge amid growing debate surrounding H-1B visas, of which Indians constitute the largest recipient group. This situation has triggered an increase in anti-Indian racism and hate speech, including calls for deportation of Indians.

When Tulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence and the first Hindu elected to US Congress, posted Diwali greetings on X, users responded with comments such as "Diwali is un-American. Move to India" and "Get out of my country."

FBI Director Kash Patel encountered similar negative reactions to his Diwali post. One user commented, "Seek Jesus. He is the way, the truth and the light," while another wrote, "Repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation."

Vance's statements regarding the couple's approach to balancing faith, family, and personal beliefs received applause from the conservative audience at the event.
