The terrorists launched an attack on the moving convoy in the area, according to Pakistan's military statement.
Peshawar:
Six soldiers, including a Captain, lost their lives in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast that targeted a security forces convoy in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Wednesday, as reported by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military's media wing.
The attack occurred in the Sultani area within the volatile Kurram tribal district near the Afghanistan border. During the subsequent exchange of fire, security forces eliminated seven terrorists.
The militants initiated gunfire on the convoy as it traversed through the region. During this confrontation, an IED detonated in the vicinity of Dogar, resulting in significant casualties.
The explosion claimed the lives of one military officer and five soldiers.
Security personnel have established a perimeter around the area and commenced a search operation to locate those responsible for the attack.
Pakistan has experienced an increase in terrorist incidents, particularly in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan regions, with police, law enforcement officers, and security forces being the primary targets.
This escalation in violence followed the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan's termination of a ceasefire agreement with the government in 2022.
Just days earlier on Sunday, security forces successfully thwarted two major terrorist infiltration attempts from Afghanistan, neutralizing 25 militants, including four suicide bombers, and confiscating substantial quantities of weapons and explosives during separate operations in North Waziristan and Kurram districts, according to ISPR reports.
