President Trump has labeled Antifa as a "radical left disaster" in a recent announcement.
New Delhi:
On Thursday, US President Donald Trump officially designated Antifa as a 'major terrorist organisation' shortly after the assassination of Charlie Kirk, his close ally and conservative activist. The term "Antifa" serves as an abbreviation for "anti-fascist" and refers to various decentralized far-left groups.
Taking to his Truth Social platform, President Trump issued a stern warning that those providing financial support to Antifa would face thorough investigation "in accordance with the highest legal standards and practices."
"I am pleased to inform our many USA Patriots that I am designating ANTIFA, A SICK, DANGEROUS, RADICAL LEFT DISASTER, AS A MAJOR TERRORIST ORGANISATION. I will also be strongly recommending that those funding ANTIFA be thoroughly investigated in accordance with the highest legal standards and practices. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" the President declared on his Truth Social account.
Earlier this week on Monday, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller revealed that Charlie Kirk's last communication with him had called for coordinated action against unnamed left-wing groups accused of inciting violence, stating that the federal government would utilize "every available resource" to dismantle these organizations.
Miller shared this information while appearing on "The Charlie Kirk Show" podcast, which was hosted by Vice President JD Vance.
Vice President JD Vance served as the host for "The Charlie Kirk Show" podcast.
More than five years ago, in May 2020, President Trump had previously expressed intentions to classify the loosely organized Antifa movement as a terrorist entity.

What Is Antifa? The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a nonprofit policy research organization, defines 'Antifa' as a "decentralised network of far-left militants that oppose what they believe are fascist, racist, or otherwise right-wing extremists."
According to CSIS, one of the most recognizable symbols associated with Antifa combines the red flag from the 1917 Russian Revolution with the black flag representing 19th century anarchists.
Antifa groups commonly engage in counter-protests aimed at disrupting gatherings and rallies organized by far-right entities. They reportedly coordinate their activities through social media platforms, encrypted peer-to-peer networks, and messaging applications like Signal.
Charlie Kirk AssassinationCharlie Kirk, aged 31, was assassinated while attending an event at Utah Valley University on September 10. The perpetrator escaped the scene immediately after firing a single shot that struck the conservative activist's neck.
Charlie Kirk sustained a fatal neck wound from the shooting.
President Trump announced Kirk's death via social media, describing the co-founder and CEO of youth organization Turning Point USA as "Great, and even Legendary."
Authorities have arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson for Kirk's murder. Investigators noted that Robinson was able to blend into the campus environment due to his college-age appearance. Utah Governor Spencer J Cox indicated that the suspect had become "more political" and opposed Kirk's ideological positions.
According to court documents, Robinson admitted to the crime in text messages sent to his transgender partner following the shooting. When asked why he committed the act, Robinson replied, "I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can't be negotiated out." He further revealed that he had been planning the attack for "a bit over a week."
