Trump Administration's $80 Billion Nuclear Power Investment to Fuel US AI Development and Energy Security

The Trump administration has announced an $80 billion strategic partnership with Brookfield Asset Management, Westinghouse Electric, and Cameco Corporation to expand nuclear power generation across the United States. This initiative aims to support growing artificial intelligence energy demands while creating over 100,000 construction jobs and sustaining thousands of manufacturing and engineering positions. The ambitious plan aligns with Trump's executive order to have 10 new large reactors under construction by 2030, positioning nuclear energy as a cornerstone of America's technological leadership and energy security strategy.

United States:

The Trump administration has launched an ambitious $80 billion "strategic partnership" aimed at expanding nuclear power generation to support artificial intelligence development, as announced Tuesday by one of the project partners.

According to a press release from Brookfield Asset Management, which is collaborating with Westinghouse Electric Company and Cameco Corporation, the initiative plans to deploy "at least $80 billion of new reactors" throughout the United States to "accelerate nuclear power and artificial intelligence deployment in America."

No specific timeline for the complete buildout was mentioned in the press release. However, a spokesperson for Brookfield indicated that the announcement relates to Trump's May executive order calling for 10 "new large reactors with complete design under construction by 2030."

The Brookfield spokesperson confirmed that the US government will provide the initial capital to commence the project.

This announcement represents the most significant investment in nuclear power since Donald Trump's return to the White House in January.

Major technology companies including Google and Microsoft have also revealed substantial nuclear initiatives to address the growing energy demands associated with AI technologies.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated that the initiative "will help unleash President Trump's grand vision to fully energise America and win the global AI race," adding, "President Trump promised a renaissance of nuclear power, and now he is delivering."

Beyond the AI "race," which the Trump administration considers a national security priority, the press release suggests the venture will deliver substantial economic benefits.

According to the joint press release, each two-unit Westinghouse AP1000 nuclear project "sustains 45,000 manufacturing and engineering jobs in 43 states," and nationwide deployment is expected to create more than 100,000 construction jobs.
