Grokipedia: Elon Musk's AI-Powered Encyclopedia Challenges Wikipedia Despite Early Controversies

Elon Musk has launched Grokipedia, an AI-powered encyclopedia developed by his company xAI. Despite being in version 0.1, Musk claims it already surpasses Wikipedia in quality. The platform hosts over 885,000 articles but faces criticism for potentially omitting controversial information about certain figures, including Musk himself. Unlike Wikipedia's community editing model, Grokipedia uses AI to gather and verify information, with users limited to suggesting corrections through a feedback form.

What Is Grokipedia? Elon Musk's New AI-Powered Rival To Wikipedia

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has introduced Grokipedia, an early version of his AI-powered online encyclopedia, asserting that even in its initial form, it surpasses Wikipedia in quality.

Musk indicated that the current version, labeled 0.1, represents just the beginning, with the forthcoming 1.0 version promising to be substantially more sophisticated.

Despite being in its early developmental stage, the Tesla CEO posted on X, "Grokipedia.com version 0.1 is now live. Version 1.0 will be 10X better, but even at 0.1 it's better than Wikipedia imo."

The platform, which debuted on October 27, experienced a rocky launch. Grokipedia temporarily went offline several hours after its initial release, presumably due to server overload or technical difficulties. It has since been restored and reportedly contains more than 885,000 articles.

Grokipedia is an AI-driven encyclopedia developed by xAI, Musk's artificial intelligence company. The platform is integrated with Grok, the AI chatbot that premium subscribers can access on Musk's platform X.

Musk has repeatedly criticized Wikipedia for bias, claiming its content is influenced by editors who may incorporate their personal perspectives. In previous statements, he explained that Grokipedia was designed to be a significant improvement over Wikipedia's community-edited model, as it would employ artificial intelligence to collect and authenticate information.

Unlike Wikipedia, users cannot directly edit Grokipedia pages. Instead, they can only propose corrections through a feedback form available on the site.

Despite Musk's claims that Grokipedia will eliminate bias and bureaucracy, some users have observed that articles or details critical of US President Donald Trump or Musk himself appear to be absent from the platform.

According to NBC News, Grokipedia's entry on US President Donald Trump omits information about his reported receipt of a luxury jet from Qatar or his promotion of a Trump-themed cryptocurrency token, both of which are documented in Wikipedia's comprehensive section on Trump's conflicts of interest.

Similarly, Grokipedia's article about Elon Musk excludes any mention of his controversial hand gesture at a rally in January.
