Russian Drone Strikes Kill 3 and Injure 29 in Kyiv as Putin Tests New Nuclear-Capable Missile

Russia launched drone attacks on Kyiv killing three civilians and wounding 29 others, including seven children. Ukrainian air defenses neutralized 90 of 101 drones. The attack comes as Putin announces tests of a new nuclear-capable cruise missile, while Zelensky pleads for Western air defense systems following consecutive nights of deadly Russian strikes on the capital.

3 Dead, 29 Wounded In Kyiv After Russia Strikes Ukrainian Capital

Russia launched a series of drone attacks on Kyiv, resulting in three civilian fatalities within their homes, Ukrainian authorities reported early Sunday.

The assault wounded at least 29 individuals, including seven children, marking the second consecutive night of attacks on the Ukrainian capital with civilian casualties. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko confirmed that among the deceased were a 19-year-old woman and her 46-year-old mother.

The Russian drone strikes ignited fires in two residential buildings located in Kyiv's Desnianskyi district. Emergency response teams evacuated residents from a nine-story and a 16-story building, extinguished the flames, and began clearing debris from the site.

Olha Yevhenivha, a 74-year-old resident, described how the dense smoke prevented her from evacuating her apartment. "Our windows remain completely blackened from the smoke, and it was impossible to descend, which is why we placed wet blankets on our doors and balcony," she explained.

According to Ukraine's air force, Russia deployed 101 drones against Ukraine overnight into Sunday. Ukrainian defenses successfully shot down or neutralized 90 of these drones. Five drones struck four different locations, while debris from destroyed drones fell on five additional areas.

This attack followed a previous day's assault where Russian missiles and drones killed four people, including two in Kyiv, prompting President Volodymyr Zelensky to renew his appeals to Western allies for additional air defense systems.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the country had tested a new nuclear-capable and powered cruise missile designed to evade existing defense systems, according to statements released Sunday.
