Albania's AI Minister "Pregnant" With 83 Digital Assistants: Revolutionary Government Technology Initiative

Albania's Prime Minister Edi Rama has announced that the country's AI minister, Diella, is "pregnant" with "83 children" - digital assistants intended for parliament members.

The AI minister, named Diella (meaning "Sun"), was appointed in September as the world's first non-human government minister.

During the Global Dialogue in Berlin, Rama revealed plans to create 83 AI assistants, one for each Socialist Party parliament member. "We took quite a risk today with Diella here and we did very well. So for the first time Diella is pregnant and with 83 children," he stated.

These digital "children" will serve as parliamentary assistants, recording proceedings and keeping legislators informed about discussions they miss. "Each one will serve as an assistant for them who will participate in parliamentary sessions, and will keep a record of everything that happens and will suggest members of parliament. These children will have the knowledge of their mother," Rama explained.

The Prime Minister provided a practical example of how these AI assistants would function: "For example, if you go for coffee and forget to come back to work, this child will say what was said when you were not in the hall, and will say who you should counter-attack."

Rama expects this innovative system to be fully operational by the end of 2026.

Diella was initially launched as a virtual assistant on the e-Albania platform in January, helping citizens and businesses obtain state documents. The AI minister appears as a woman wearing traditional Albanian attire.

Her primary responsibility is overseeing public procurement decisions to ensure they are "100 per cent corruption-free." Rama emphasized that "every public fund submitted to the tender procedure will be perfectly transparent" under Diella's supervision.

Albania has made history as the first nation to officially appoint an AI entity as a government minister. Unlike countries that have ministers responsible for artificial intelligence policy, Diella herself is an AI entity composed entirely of code and pixels.
