Chinese officials announced on Sunday that China has achieved a "preliminary consensus" with the United States during their trade negotiations, coming just days before a critical summit between the leaders of both nations.

"China and the US engaged in constructive discussions regarding approaches to effectively address concerns from both parties and have reached a preliminary consensus," stated Li Chenggang, China's vice minister of commerce and international trade negotiator.

Representatives from Beijing and Washington concluded two days of trade negotiations in Malaysia on Sunday, setting the stage for the upcoming meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping scheduled to take place in South Korea later this week.
