Indian Nurse Sentenced to Jail and Caning for Molesting Hospital Visitor in Singapore

Elipe Siva Nagu, an Indian national employed as a staff nurse at Singapore's prestigious Raffles Hospital, has been sentenced to 14 months imprisonment along with two strokes of the cane after admitting to molesting a male visitor.

The 34-year-old nurse committed the offense in June under the false pretense of needing to "disinfect" the victim. Following the incident, Elipe was promptly suspended from his nursing responsibilities.

According to court proceedings, the victim now experiences flashbacks of the traumatic event. The court has protected the victim's identity, with personal details including age being redacted from official documents.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Eugene Phua revealed that the victim was at Raffles Hospital on North Bridge Road visiting his hospitalized grandfather on June 18. At approximately 7:30 pm, while the victim was using a patient's toilet, Elipe peered inside.

Under the deceptive claim of wanting to "disinfect" him, Elipe applied soap to his hand before molesting the victim. DPP Phua stated that the victim remained motionless, paralyzed by shock during the encounter.

Following the distressing incident, the victim returned to his grandfather's bedside. While court documents do not detail subsequent events, the case was formally reported on June 21, with Elipe's arrest occurring two days later.

The court delivered its sentence on Friday, ordering Elipe to serve 14 months in jail and receive two strokes of the cane for his actions.
