Israeli Airstrike Eliminates Senior Hezbollah Logistics Commander in Southern Lebanon

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has confirmed the targeted killing of Abbas Hassan Karky, Hezbollah's logistics commander for the Southern Front, in Lebanon's Nabatieh region. According to the IDF, Karky was responsible for rebuilding Hezbollah's combat capabilities and weapons infrastructure in southern Lebanon following previous conflicts. This strike occurs despite a ceasefire agreement in place since November 2024, with Israel claiming the commander's activities violated these terms.

Israeli Strike Kills Hezbollah Commander In Lebanon

Jerusalem:

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced in an official statement that they successfully eliminated a high-ranking Hezbollah commander in southern Lebanon.

Abbas Hassan Karky, who served as the logistics commander of Hezbollah's Southern Front headquarters, was killed in Lebanon's Nabatieh area during an operation on Friday.

The IDF statement claimed that Karky had been spearheading efforts to rebuild Hezbollah's military capabilities in recent months.

According to Israeli forces, Karky "led and advanced efforts to rebuild" Hezbollah's operational capabilities in southern Lebanon and worked to restore infrastructure that had been destroyed during previous military confrontations last year.

"He was also responsible for reestablishing the organisation's force structure and for managing the transfer and storage of weapons in southern Lebanon," the IDF added.

Lebanon's National News Agency confirmed that an Israeli airstrike hit a vehicle on a road in southern Lebanon on Friday, resulting in the death of Abbas Hassan Karky.

A security source in Lebanon verified to Xinhua that Karky held an official position within Hezbollah, though no additional information was provided.

Lebanese media outlets reported that Karaki was related to Ali Karaki, the former head of the Southern Front who was killed alongside longtime Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in an operation last year.

This latest assassination follows Israel's announcement of strikes across Lebanon against Hezbollah targets just a day earlier, including an arms cache and a training facility. Lebanese authorities reported four casualties from these operations, including an elderly woman.

On Wednesday, Israel also announced they had eliminated a platoon commander from Hezbollah's elite Radwan Force in southern Lebanon, accusing him of weapons transportation and planning future attacks.

In each of these cases, including Friday's strike, Israel has maintained that the targets' activities constituted violations of the existing ceasefire agreement.

A ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel has officially been in effect since November 27, 2024, which largely halted the hostilities that were triggered by the Gaza war.

Despite this agreement, the Israeli military continues to conduct periodic strikes within Lebanon, justifying these operations as necessary actions against Hezbollah "threats" while maintaining troop deployments at five strategic positions along the Lebanese border.
