The Daily Beast Retracts Article After Publishing Unfounded Claims About Melania Trump
The Daily Beast has formally apologized to First Lady Melania Trump following the publication of an article that claimed she was introduced to former President Donald Trump through Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex offender.
The media outlet removed the article from their website, acknowledging it failed to meet their editorial standards. The publication admitted the story was based on unverified claims made by journalist Michael Wolff during an interview.
Melania Trump shared the retraction on her X account with the simple caption: "Retraction and apology from The Daily Beast."
"The Daily Beast recently published a story headlined 'Melania Trump 'Very Involved' in Epstein Scandal: Author' based on an interview with Michael Wolff. Upon reflection, we have determined that the article did not meet our standards and has therefore been removed from our platforms," stated The Daily Beast in their official statement.

"In response to a letter from the first lady's attorneys, The Daily Beast has also removed a portion of an episode of The Daily Beast Podcast titled 'Trump's Epstein Scandal Can't Stop Won't Stop' referencing the first lady," the statement continued.
The publication acknowledged Melania's memoir as the authoritative account of her life journey. "The first lady points to her bestselling book, Melania, as the definitive account of her life story. We apologise to the first lady and our readers," they concluded.
Earlier this year, Donald Trump had criticized Wolff, describing him as a "third-grade reporter," according to the New York Post. During his appearance on The Daily Beast Podcast, Wolff had alleged that Melania was significantly involved in Donald Trump's relationship with Epstein, who died in a New York jail in 2019.
"[Melania] was very involved in this Epstein relationship. There is this model thing, and she's introduced by a model agent, both of whom Trump and Epstein are involved with. She's introduced to Trump that way; Epstein knows her well," Wolff claimed in the interview.
In July, Donald Trump initiated a $10 billion defamation lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal after they published a report claiming he had sent Epstein a birthday greeting in 2003.
According to the report, the alleged letter contained a hand-drawn outline of a naked woman with Trump's signature and the message, "Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret."
Trump firmly denied authoring the letter, declaring it fraudulent. "It's not my signature and it's not the way I speak," he told reporters, further stating, "Anybody that's covered me for a long time knows that's not my language. It's nonsense. And frankly, you're wasting your time."
However, The New York Times subsequently released several Trump-signed letters from the late 1990s and early 2000s that appear to bear significant similarities to the 2003 letter in question.
