"Betrayal and Independence: Former White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre Reveals Why She Left the Democratic Party"

In her revealing memoir, former White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre details her shocking transition from Democratic Party loyalist to political independent following President Biden's withdrawal from the 2024 race. She describes feeling "enraged and heartbroken" by how fellow Democrats treated Biden after his decades of public service, marking a profound turning point in her political identity after serving as the first Black and openly LGBTQ+ individual in this prestigious role.

Biden's Ex Press Secretary Slams Democrats

Jean-Pierre expressed feeling betrayed by the accusations directed at the former president from members of his own political party.

A former White House press secretary has revealed her profound shock and dismay upon learning that then-President Joe Biden would not seek reelection in 2024.

In her forthcoming memoir, 'Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines,' Karine Jean-Pierre describes experiencing feelings of anger and sadness despite Biden appearing "totally at peace" with his decision.

"I was enraged and heartbroken that this man had given more than 50 years of his life to serving the American people, and in the end, he'd been treated poorly by members of his own party. It was horrible," Jean-Pierre writes.

Jean-Pierre, who made history as the first Black and openly LGBTQ+ individual to serve as press secretary from May 2022 to January 2025, notes that Biden's treatment by fellow Democrats represented a significant turning point.

She claims that following the sitting president's underwhelming debate performance against Donald Trump, Democrats organized what she describes as a "firing squad" around Biden, according to The New York Post.

Jean-Pierre, who previously worked on President Barack Obama's campaign as a dedicated Democrat, reveals she never questioned her party allegiance until she felt her fundamental beliefs no longer aligned with the party.

"The Democratic Party had defined my life, my career. Everything I'd done to make people's lives better had been connected to it. The party was the vehicle that allowed me not just to have a front seat to history," she states in her memoir.

The former press secretary admits she never anticipated Biden would withdraw from the presidential race.

Throughout her tenure, Jean-Pierre consistently defended Biden's physical and mental capabilities despite ongoing controversy regarding his apparent cognitive challenges.

She describes feeling betrayed by accusations from within the Democratic Party that ultimately compelled the former president to exit the race.

Jean-Pierre mentions her intention to appear on the liberal ABC talk show 'The View' following Biden's withdrawal announcement.

"Now the cloud of unease hovering over me solidified into an idea about how I could do something different," she writes.

In June 2025, Jean-Pierre announced her decision to become politically independent, expressing a desire to be "clear-eyed and questioning, rather than blindly loyal and obedient as we may have been in the past," as reported by Reuters.

The 51-year-old announced her book publication and subsequently declared her departure from the Democratic Party. Before her prominent White House position, she worked as an MSNBC political commentator and participated in several Democratic presidential campaigns.
