Trump Plans Military Deployment in San Francisco: Strategy to "Make It Great Again" Sparks Controversy

Donald Trump has announced his intention to deploy military forces to San Francisco, continuing his pattern of sending troops to Democratic-led cities across the United States.

In a Fox News interview that aired Sunday, Trump stated, "Next, we're going to go to San Francisco. The difference is, I think they want us in San Francisco. San Francisco was truly one of the great cities of the world. And then 15 years ago, it went wrong. We're going to go to San Francisco and we're going to make it great."

This declaration follows Trump's controversial deployments of National Guard troops to Los Angeles, Washington, and Memphis, often against local leaders' wishes. Notably, judicial authorities have already blocked similar deployments in Chicago and Portland.

Critics point out that Trump consistently overstates crime and disorder in American urban centers to justify these military interventions. Last month, he suggested using American cities as "training grounds" for military forces.

The initial deployment to Los Angeles in June occurred following protests against immigration raids that many criticized as racially motivated. California Governor Gavin Newsom, a frequent Trump adversary and potential 2027 presidential candidate, strongly condemned this action.

Trump's San Francisco comments coincide with recent controversy surrounding Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, who apologized after advocating for National Guard deployment to the city. Benioff, once aligned with progressive causes, has increasingly shifted rightward alongside other tech industry leaders. His support for military intervention in San Francisco provoked significant backlash, with former allies publicly distancing themselves.

San Francisco occupies a symbolic position in Republican discourse. The city's documented struggles with homelessness and substance abuse are frequently highlighted on conservative media outlets as evidence of what they characterize as urban decay under Democratic leadership.
