In a tragic maritime incident off Mozambique's central coast, three Indian nationals have lost their lives and five others are currently missing after a launch boat capsized near Beira port. The Indian High Commission in Mozambique confirmed the accident, which happened during a crew transfer operation on Friday local time.

According to officials, the vessel was conducting what appeared to be a routine transfer of crew members to an anchored tanker when it overturned in coastal waters under circumstances that remain under investigation. The boat was carrying a total of 14 Indian crew members at the time of the incident.

The Indian High Commission shared information via social media, stating: "A launch boat transporting tanker crew members, including 14 Indian nationals, capsized during transfer operations off Beira port in central Mozambique. Several Indian nationals have been rescued, but unfortunately, some have perished in the accident, while others remain unaccounted for."

In subsequent communications on platform X, the High Commission expressed their condolences: "We convey our heartfelt sympathies for the loss of lives, including three Indian nationals, in this boat accident off Beira port. The Mission is in contact with families of the deceased and is providing all possible assistance to them."

Officials confirmed that five Indian nationals were successfully rescued from the capsized vessel and are safe. One survivor is currently receiving medical care at a Beira hospital.

"A Consular Officer from the Mission has traveled to Beira and visited the Indian national who survived the unfortunate incident and is currently receiving medical attention. Five other Indian nationals have been safely rescued," the High Commission reported.

Intensive search and rescue operations are continuing to locate the five missing Indian nationals. These efforts involve coordination between local authorities, maritime agencies, and the Indian diplomatic mission.

The High Commission provided an update on the rescue operations: "Search and rescue efforts are actively ongoing. Our Mission is working closely with local authorities regarding the five missing Indians."

Indian diplomatic officials assured that they are monitoring the situation closely and maintaining regular communication with Mozambican officials as the search continues.
