India's Remarkable Transformation: From 'Fragile Five' to Top 5 Global Economy Under PM Modi's Leadership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlines India's incredible economic journey over the past 11 years, highlighting the transformation from a 'Fragile Five' economy to one of the world's top five economies. Speaking at the NDTV World Summit, he emphasized India's resilience through global challenges, pandemic recovery, and its emergence as a trusted global partner attracting significant international investments, while maintaining growth rates above 7% and inflation below 2%.

India has emerged as one of the top five economies of the world from a 'Fragile Five' economy before 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated, highlighting the country's growth trajectory over the past 11 years.

Speaking at NDTV's prestigious event, the NDTV World Summit, on Friday, the Prime Minister noted that the name of his session, 'Unstoppable Bharat', was perfectly fitting because India has no intention of halting its progress.

"During this festive season, the NDTV World Summit is being held with a very significant theme - 'Unstoppable Bharat'. The reality is, India truly has no intention to stop. We will neither stop, nor pause ('na rukenge, na thamenge')... In a world filled with numerous roadblocks and speedbreakers, a discussion about an 'Unstoppable Bharat' is natural," he remarked.

Contextualizing India's growth journey, PM Modi reminded the audience that prior to his government taking office in 2014, discussions centered around India's ability to navigate global economic challenges, how to overcome its status as a 'Fragile Five' economy, policy paralysis, and corruption scandals. Issues like women's safety, terrorist sleeper cells, and inflation were also dominant concerns.

"People in our country and worldwide believed India would struggle to overcome these crises. However, over the last 11 years, India has conquered every challenge. From being labeled a 'Fragile Five' economy, India has transformed into one of the world's top five economies. Today, inflation remains below 2% while the growth rate exceeds 7%. From chip manufacturing to shipbuilding, we see an 'atmanirbhar' (self-reliant) India, a confident India," he stated.

Regarding terrorism, he emphasized that India's response had evolved significantly, with the country responding firmly through surgical strikes, air strikes, and Operation Sindoor.

"When COVID-19 struck, the world questioned how India would manage such a massive crisis. Many feared the world would suffer because of India, but our country proved these predictions wrong. We faced the challenge head-on, developed our own vaccines, and administered them at unprecedented speed. We overcame the crisis and emerged as the fastest-growing major economy," the Prime Minister said.

Addressing the challenges that followed the pandemic, PM Modi recalled how global conflicts threatened India's growth narrative. Nevertheless, he highlighted that India maintained its position as the fastest-growing major economy, achieving an average growth rate of 7.8 percent over the past three years.

Underscoring how India's growth is creating global opportunities, the PM continued, "India's exports have increased significantly. Last year, our agricultural exports reached Rs 4.8 lakh crore. While many countries face uncertain credit ratings, S&P has upgraded India's rating after 17 years... Recently, Google announced plans to invest $15 billion in India's AI sector."

He noted that the recent visit by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and commitments of $100 billion in investments from European nations further validate this trend.

"These developments demonstrate that the world views India with hope... The international community now recognizes India as a reliable, responsible, and resilient partner. From electronics to pharmaceuticals, from automobile to mobile production, a wave of investment is flowing into the country. This investment is helping India become a vital hub in the global supply chain," PM Modi concluded.
