New Delhi:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared on Friday that the era of a "silent India" facing terrorism has concluded, emphasizing that the nation now delivers a "befitting response" to those threatening its security. During his address at the NDTV World Summit 2025, the Prime Minister highlighted Operation Sindoor as evidence of India's resolute position against cross-border terrorism.
"Today, the self-reliant India refuses to remain silent. It delivers appropriate responses through surgical strikes, airstrikes, and Operation Sindoor," PM Modi stated, eliciting applause from those in attendance.
The Prime Minister's comments follow recent escalated tensions with Pakistan after India's cross-border military action. On May 7, Indian forces conducted coordinated strikes targeting multiple terrorist infrastructure locations throughout Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan's Punjab province.
This joint operation by the Indian Air Force and Army utilized stand-off precision missiles to destroy facilities connected to terrorist organizations including Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
The military response followed a deadly attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22, which resulted in 26 fatalities. India's retaliatory action - Operation Sindoor - eliminated more than 100 terrorists affiliated with the three Pakistan-based terror groups.
Addressing India's economic strength amid global uncertainty, PM Modi observed that while much of the world struggled with conflicts and economic challenges in post-pandemic years, India maintained consistent growth.
"In the aftermath of Covid, headlines were dominated by conflicts and wars. Yet India continued advancing. In the past three years, our average growth has been 7.8 percent. Just two days ago, merchandise export data revealed India's exports have increased by 7 percent," he noted.
The NDTV World Summit 2025 commenced in New Delhi on Friday, bringing together an impressive assembly of global leaders, policymakers, and cultural figures.
Speakers at the event include Prime Minister Modi, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and former Australian PM Tony Abbott.
The Summit also features prominent figures from arts and sports, including Grammy Award-winning composer Ricky Kej, actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and BCCI Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar.
