PM Modi Hosts Sri Lankan PM Ahead of NDTV World Summit: Strengthening Regional Cooperation and Development Initiatives

Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya in Delhi for comprehensive bilateral discussions focusing on education, women's empowerment, innovation, and regional cooperation. Both leaders are scheduled to address the NDTV World Summit 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, where they will share their visions on navigating global challenges and fostering regional prosperity.

PM Modi Meets Sri Lankan PM, Both Leaders To Attend NDTV World Summit Today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya at his Delhi residence on Friday for bilateral discussions. Their meeting encompassed several key areas of mutual interest including innovation, women's empowerment, and welfare of fishermen.

This significant diplomatic engagement took place just hours before both leaders were scheduled to appear at the prestigious NDTV World Summit held at Bharat Mandapam, the state-of-the-art convention facility at Pragati Maidan.

Following their talks, PM Modi shared on social media platform X: "Glad to welcome Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Ms. Harini Amarasuriya. Our discussions covered a broad range of areas, including education, women's empowerment, innovation, development cooperation and welfare of our fishermen."

The Indian Prime Minister further emphasized the importance of their bilateral relationship, stating, "As close neighbours, our cooperation holds immense importance for the prosperity of our two peoples as well as the shared region."

This visit marks Amarasuriya's first official trip to India since assuming office last year. At the NDTV World Summit, she will deliver an address on 'Steering change in uncertain times' during the opening session of the two-day event.

The 2025 Summit, themed 'Edge of the Unknown: Risk. Resolve. Renewal,' aims to address contemporary global challenges by encouraging leaders to confront uncertainty with innovative thinking and deliberate intention, while embracing renewal as a pathway to new possibilities.

Prior to the event, Amarasuriya expressed her anticipation: "I am looking forward to participating in the NDTV World Summit, where I will have the opportunity to engage with global leaders and thinkers. I hope to share Sri Lanka's perspectives on international cooperation and economic resilience. And to contribute to meaningful conversations on the pressing challenges of our region and the world."

Following the Sri Lankan Prime Minister's session, PM Modi is scheduled to deliver an address titled "Unstoppable Bharat: The Force of Now" at the Summit.
