Reports indicate that tensions existed between Admiral Alvin Holsey and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
Washington:
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced Thursday that the US admiral commanding military forces in Latin America will be stepping down at year's end, a surprising development coinciding with heightening tensions with Venezuela.
Admiral Alvin Holsey assumed leadership of the US Southern Command less than a year ago, considerably shorter than the typical three-year tenure for this position. A source informed Reuters that strained relations existed between Holsey and Hegseth, with speculation about his potential dismissal circulating in the days preceding the announcement.
In his social media statement, Hegseth provided no explanation for Holsey's early departure.
