Trump's Refugee Policy Overhaul: Prioritizing White South Africans and Europeans in US Asylum System

President Trump is planning a major restructuring of America's refugee system that would favor white South Africans and Europeans while drastically reducing overall admissions from 125,000 to 7,500. The new policy would prioritize applicants based on their ability to assimilate into American culture, with a focus on English speakers and those who align with the administration's objectives, marking a significant shift from traditional humanitarian-based refugee programs.

Donald Trump's Refugee Overhaul To Favour Whites: Report

President Trump is reportedly planning a significant restructuring of America's refugee system that would predominantly allocate refugee slots to Afrikaners, the white minority community in South Africa.

According to documents obtained by The New York Times, the proposed changes would fundamentally alter the refugee admission process, giving preference to specific demographics including English speakers, white South Africans, and Europeans who oppose migration.

This shift would represent a dramatic departure from the longstanding refugee program which has historically prioritized individuals fleeing war, persecution, or dangerous situations regardless of their racial background or nationality.

Reports indicate that earlier this month, Trump intended to drastically reduce US refugee admissions from the Biden administration's target of 125,000 last year to approximately 7,500 for the upcoming fiscal year, as reported by ABC News.

The majority of these limited refugee slots would be designated for Afrikaners, who claim to experience discrimination and racial violence under South Africa's Black-led government.

Trump has repeatedly stated that Afrikaners in South Africa face racial persecution, justifying their prioritization in US refugee admissions. This proposal was presented to the White House in April and July by officials from both the State Department and Department of Homeland Security.

The proposed revisions to the refugee program would emphasize applicants' ability to integrate into American society. Potential refugees might be required to participate in classes covering US history, values, and cultural norms.

Additionally, the proposal recommends prioritizing Europeans who have been "targeted for peaceful expression of views online."

One document states: "The sharp increase in diversity has reduced the level of social trust essential for the functioning of a democratic polity. The administration should only welcome refugees who can be fully and appropriately assimilated and are aligned with the president's objectives."

Thomas Pigott, a State Department spokesman, commented: "This administration unapologetically prioritises the interests of the American people."

Earlier this year, the Trump administration initiated a new program to expedite the relocation of Afrikaner farmers from South Africa to the United States. Simultaneously, the refugee program for individuals from other global regions was suspended to prioritize this specific group.

Under this initiative, approximately 70 white South Africans were relocated to the US in two groups during May and June, which officials described as the beginning of the new program.
