Afghanistan's Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi concluded his six-day diplomatic mission to India on Wednesday, returning to Kabul after engaging in various cultural and diplomatic activities designed to enhance bilateral relations.
Prior to his departure, Muttaqi received a meaningful gift - a sacred shawl and traditional cap (Fez) that once belonged to Sheikh-ul-Hind Maulana Mahmud Hasan, presented by the Sheikh's family.
Hafiz Zia Ahmad, Director of Public Communication for Afghanistan's Foreign Ministry, shared a video on social media platform X showing Muttaqi receiving these symbolic items. Ahmad noted they were "presented to the Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi as a token of honour and blessing."
During his visit, Muttaqi was warmly received at the prestigious Darul Uloom Deoband seminary on Saturday. In conversation with ANI, he expressed appreciation for the hospitality extended to him and shared optimism regarding India-Afghanistan relations.
"The journey has been very good so far. Not just the people of Darul Uloom, but all the people of the area have come here. I am grateful for the warm welcome they extended to me," Muttaqi stated, further adding that "The future of India-Afghanistan relations seems very bright."
Darul Uloom Deoband, established in the late 19th century, is a renowned Islamic seminary that has educated Islamic scholars from India and worldwide. Founded by Sayyid Muhammad Abid, Fazlur Rahman Usmai, Mahtab Ali Deobandi and others, the current campus was established by Muhamad Qasim Nanautawi, with a curriculum primarily focused on manqulat.
A significant diplomatic engagement occurred on October 10 when External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held comprehensive discussions with Muttaqi. Their talks encompassed various issues of mutual interest and important regional developments.
According to the joint statement released afterward, "External Affairs Minister reiterated India's long-standing friendship with the Afghan people and highlighted the deep-rooted cultural and historical ties binding the two nations. He conveyed India's continued commitment to support the aspirations and developmental needs of the Afghan people."
