Justin Trudeau and Katy Perry's Relationship Labeled as "Midlife Crisis" Following His Divorce

Justin Trudeau and Katy Perry were recently spotted embracing and kissing aboard a yacht, fueling rumors about their relationship.

A Canadian society source has described former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's romantic involvement with pop icon Katy Perry as a "midlife crisis" following his marriage dissolution. The insider told Page Six, "Dating Katy may just be Trudeau's answer to going to Burning Man. It's a bit of a midlife crisis." Trudeau ended his 18-year marriage to Sophie Gregoire in 2023.

"He is sowing his oats all over again. He's free from the ties of office and his marriage," the source added.

Recently, images and videos circulated widely showing Perry and Trudeau together on a yacht in Santa Barbara, California. The American singer was seen wearing a black swimsuit while Trudeau appeared shirtless. The pair were captured in intimate moments on the yacht's deck.

A friend of Trudeau's characterized this period as a time of liberation for him, noting that he spent much of his 40s significantly constrained by his responsibilities and family obligations.

"I don't think anyone who knows him is surprised that Justin would date someone famous. It does echo his father. It's in his DNA to do this," remarked the society source, alluding to his father, Pierre Trudeau, who was also known for his high-profile relationships.

"They both need a boost, and it may be a mutually beneficial thing," another insider suggested.

The couple was first observed having dinner together in July at Le Violon, an upscale restaurant in Montreal. Several days later, Trudeau attended one of Perry's concerts accompanied by his 16-year-old daughter, Ella-Grace.

PEOPLE magazine reported that during the summer, Perry accompanied Trudeau to Chester, Nova Scotia, though Perry's representatives denied these claims.

Since resigning as Prime Minister earlier this year, Trudeau has largely remained away from the public spotlight.

Trudeau is father to three children from his marriage with Sophia: Xavier (18), Ella-Grace (16), and Hadrien (11). Perry has a five-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, with actor Orlando Bloom. She was previously married to comedian Russell Brand from 2010 to 2012.
