'Bitcoin Jesus' Roger Ver Agrees To Pay $50 Million in US Tax Settlement

Roger Ver, widely known as "Bitcoin Jesus" for his early cryptocurrency advocacy, has reached an agreement to pay $50 million to resolve outstanding tax charges with the United States Justice Department.
After renouncing his American citizenship in 2014 and relocating to St Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean, Ver faced legal complications for failing to properly disclose his bitcoin holdings to US tax authorities during his expatriation process.
The federal tax charges against Ver have now been addressed through a deferred prosecution agreement, which requires him to pay $50 million covering back taxes, associated penalties, and interest.
Associate Deputy Attorney General Ketan Bhirud stated, "We are pleased that Mr. Ver has taken responsibility for his past misconduct and satisfied his obligations to the American public. This resolution sends a clear message: whether you deal in dollars or digital assets, you must file accurate tax returns and pay what you owe."
Earlier this year, Elon Musk, founder of SpaceX and Tesla, mentioned he was exploring the possibility of seeking a presidential pardon for Ver from President Donald Trump.
