Russia has consistently rejected numerous ceasefire appeals while presenting stringent conditions for peace.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed on Monday that the "extraordinary" Gaza ceasefire has inspired optimism that US President Donald Trump might facilitate an end to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
"When peace is achieved in one region of the world, it generates greater hope for peace in other areas," Zelensky stated on social media platforms.
He further remarked: "If a ceasefire and peace have been established in the Middle East, then surely the leadership and determination of global actors can work effectively for Ukraine as well."
Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, triggering Europe's largest military conflict since World War II.
The war has resulted in tens of thousands of casualties, displaced millions of Ukrainians, and devastated significant portions of eastern and southern Ukraine.
Trump previously claimed he could resolve the conflict within hours, but despite multiple discussions and a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, meaningful progress toward a peace agreement remains elusive.
Russia continues to reject ceasefire proposals while maintaining extreme demands, essentially requiring Kyiv's surrender as a condition for peace.
The US President has recently displayed increasing frustration with Putin and has expressed his belief that Ukraine could potentially reclaim all territory seized by Russian forces.
Currently, Moscow's military controls approximately one-fifth of Ukraine, including the Crimean peninsula which was captured and annexed in 2014.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also encouraged Trump to extend the momentum from the Israel-Hamas ceasefire negotiation to Ukraine's situation.
"We hope the American president will now utilize the influence he has demonstrated with parties involved in the Middle East to collaborate with us regarding the Russian government," Merz stated in Egypt, where he was attending a summit of world leaders including Trump.
Merz indicated that he would discuss potential Russia-Ukraine war settlements with Trump during the summit.
