The eight Indian-origin suspects, ranging in age from 21 to 29, are now facing a collective 344 criminal charges.

Ottawa authorities have apprehended eight men of Indian descent in connection with extensive mail theft operations, including the theft of credit cards and cheques. The suspects now face more than 300 charges, with deportation proceedings being considered for some individuals, according to local media sources.

Peel police investigations led to the recovery of over 450 stolen mail items, including credit cards and cheques valued at more than CAD 400,000, CTV News reported.

"The investigation revealed a coordinated group targeting residential mailboxes, causing widespread theft and significant disruption to community members," stated a police news release issued Friday.

In April, Peel police, Halton police, and Canada Post initiated a joint investigation named "Project Undeliverable" in response to numerous reports of mail thefts across the region.

Law enforcement officials executed search warrants in September, resulting in the recovery of 465 stolen mail items, including 255 cheques, 182 credit cards, 35 government identification documents, and 20 gift cards.

The suspects have been identified as Sumanpreet Singh, Gurdeep Chattha, Jashandeep Jattana, Harman Singh, Jasanpreet Singh, Manroop Singh, Rajbir Singh, and Upinderjit Singh.

According to CBC's Friday report, the eight men face 344 charges collectively, including multiple counts of theft and possession of property obtained through criminal activity.

Police officials have confirmed they are in discussions with the Crown Attorney's Office and the Canada Border Services Agency regarding potential deportation for some of the foreign nationals among the accused.
