Shocking Video Shows Man Urinating On Sacred Altar At St Peter's Basilica During Mass

A deeply disturbing incident occurred at St Peter's Basilica in Vatican City on Friday (October 10) when a man was caught on video appearing to urinate on the Altar of Confession during a morning Holy Mass. According to Fox News, this shocking act took place in front of hundreds of worshippers and tourists who were present at the sacred site.

The incident, which happened during the 9:00 am service, quickly went viral across social media platforms, with numerous users describing it as "disgusting" and "disgraceful." Reports indicate that the individual climbed the altar steps, lowered his pants, and proceeded to urinate on the sacred site, prompting immediate intervention from Vatican gendarmes who escorted him away from the premises.

As of now, it remains unclear whether the man was formally arrested or charged following the incident. According to Italian newspaper Il Tempo, the unidentified man "was promptly reached by plainclothes police officers present in the basilica" and was subsequently removed from the church.

Italian media outlets have reported that Pope Francis was informed of the incident and was "shocked to learn of the news." However, Vatican officials have not yet released an official statement regarding the matter.

This is not an isolated occurrence at the holy site. According to the Catholic News Agency, a similar incident took place in February when an individual desecrated the altar by climbing on top of it and throwing six candelabras to the ground.

At that time, Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni issued a statement to ANSA explaining: "This is an episode of a person with a serious mental disability who has been detained by the Vatican Police and then placed at the disposal of the Italian authorities."

In another incident from June 2023, a Polish man approached the high altar undressed and climbed onto it with the words "Save children of Ukraine" written on his back. This event occurred as the basilica was preparing to close for the day.
