President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine reached out to French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday, specifically requesting additional air defense systems, noting that Russia is exploiting the world's divided attention to intensify attacks against Ukraine.

As a significant military ally to Ukraine, France's support remains crucial despite its internal political challenges. The country has been experiencing political instability since Macron called for snap elections last year, which resulted in a fragmented parliament with no clear majority among competing political factions.

"During my conversation with President Emmanuel Macron, I outlined our critical requirements - with air defense systems and missiles being our top priority," Zelensky stated in his Facebook update.

The Ukrainian President further emphasized, "Russia is currently capitalizing on this moment - when global attention is predominantly focused on Middle Eastern conflicts and countries' internal matters."

In recent days, Russia has conducted targeted strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, leaving hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian citizens without power as winter approaches.

Meanwhile, diplomatic initiatives aimed at resolving Russia's three-and-a-half-year invasion have reached an impasse in recent months.
