Maria Corina Machado, the 58-year-old Venezuelan opposition leader, has expressed support for Trump's military pressure campaign against Maduro's regime.
Venezuelan opposition figure Maria Corina Machado publicly dedicated her Nobel Peace Prize on Friday to the Venezuelan people and to US President Donald Trump, acknowledging his "decisive support" for Venezuela's democratic movement.
"I dedicate this prize to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his decisive support of our cause!" she declared in a post on X.
"We are on the threshold of victory, and today, more than ever, we count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the peoples of Latin America, and the democratic nations of the world as our principal allies to achieve Freedom and democracy," her statement continued.
Machado has remained in hiding within Venezuela for the past year following elections that authoritarian leftist President Nicolas Maduro is widely accused of fraudulently winning.
"This recognition of the struggle of all Venezuelans is a boost to conclude our task: to conquer Freedom. We are on the threshold of victory and today, more than ever, we count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the peoples of Latin America, and the democratic…"
Prohibited from running in the election herself, Machado campaigned for her substitute candidate, former diplomat Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, who much of the international community recognizes as the legitimate winner.
The Nobel Committee recognized her "tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy."
At 58, Machado has endorsed Trump's ongoing military pressure campaign against Maduro, including significant US naval deployments near Venezuela, describing it as a "necessary measure" toward achieving democratic transition in the country.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt shared Machado's post dedicating her Nobel Prize to Trump on her X account.
Several opposition leaders who have worked alongside Machado, including two-time former presidential candidate Henrique Capriles, offered their congratulations on her prestigious award.
"May this recognition be another boost to achieve PEACE and for our Venezuela to leave behind the suffering and recover the freedom and democracy for which it has fought for so many years," Capriles wrote on X.
