Two Powerful Explosions Rock Central Kabul Amid Foreign Minister's India Visit

Two significant explosions echoed through central Kabul on Thursday evening, as witnessed by AFP journalists.

The initial blast occurred at approximately 9:50 pm local time (1720 GMT), with a second explosion following shortly thereafter.

Government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid stated on X, "The incident is under investigation, but no casualties have been reported yet and everything is fine," adding that additional information would be released later.

Multiple individuals on social media platforms reported hearing the explosions and observing drones in the area.

An AFP journalist observed heightened security presence in the capital's streets, with security forces conducting vehicle searches. Mobile phone service was disrupted in several neighborhoods.

Earlier that day, Afghanistan's Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi had arrived in India for a two-day diplomatic visit. This marks another step in the Taliban government's ongoing efforts to secure international recognition, with Russia currently being the only nation officially recognizing the Islamic Emirate.
