Washington DC:
In a Fox News interview, US President Donald Trump discussed the military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities that took place earlier this year. He emphasized that Iran had been close to developing nuclear weapons, which would have significantly hindered the possibility of reaching a Gaza peace agreement.
Trump explained, "Iran was about one month, maybe two months away from having a nuclear weapon, and if I allowed that to happen, this deal would not have been possible -- or if it was, it would have a tremendous cloud over it because you have a country with a nuclear weapon that was obviously not very friendly and the power of nuclear weapons is something we shouldn't even be talking about... so it's a very much different Iran".
The President further elaborated that the peace negotiations had united global powers, and had Iran succeeded in obtaining nuclear capabilities, it would have cast a significant shadow over the peace process.
On Thursday, the White House released footage showing President Trump meeting with family members of hostages held in Gaza who expressed their gratitude for his role in securing the peace agreement.
Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Ministry Spokesperson, Majed Al Ansari, confirmed on Thursday that all provisions and implementation mechanisms for the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire had been agreed upon. According to Ansari, the arrangement includes provisions for releasing Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners.
Following President Trump's announcement that Hamas and Israel had "signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan," Hamas issued its first public response. The group posted on Telegram confirming "the conclusion of an agreement stipulating an end to the war on Gaza, the occupation's withdrawal from it, the entry of aid, and a prisoner exchange," as reported by Al Jazeera.
