A tourist couple chose to spend the night at Jewel Changi Airport after finding hotel accommodations prohibitively expensive during Singapore's Formula 1 race weekend.

The woman documented their experience in a TikTok video, explaining they had arrived by ferry from the Bintan Islands and needed somewhere to stay until their flight departed the following day.

She described hotel prices as "astronomical," noting they were unwilling to pay approximately $400 (around Rs 33,000) for a single night's accommodation.

The couple arrived at the airport around 9 pm, giving them roughly an hour to explore before most shops closed at 10 pm. During this time, they visited several establishments including Starbucks Reserve, Adidas, Uniqlo, and Don Don Donki.

After their shopping excursion, they briefly considered watching a film at Shaw Theatres Jewel to pass time but ultimately decided against it.

"We are having a tough time finding somewhere to rest our heads, which is understandable because we are not supposed to sleep here," the woman remarked in her video.

Eventually, they located an area where other travelers were also spending the night. Coming prepared, they laid out thin blankets and used neck pillows on the floor for comfort.

She later acknowledged that their approximately five hours of sleep wasn't particularly comfortable, mentioning that her husband woke almost hourly throughout the night.

"Not the best night of sleep. But we did it. We didn't have to pay for a hotel," she concluded.

The woman shared an image showing their sleeping area, which appeared to be just outside Terminal 1's arrival hall at Jewel Changi Airport, where at least 30 other travelers were similarly spending the night.
