New Delhi:
A woman in her 60s passed away at Disneyland in Anaheim, California, following what appears to be a medical emergency that occurred while she was on the Haunted Mansion attraction.
Anaheim Fire and Rescue services were called to the theme park around 6:30 local time on Monday, after receiving reports that a visitor was found unconscious shortly after exiting the ride.
Disneyland security personnel administered CPR until emergency responders arrived. The woman was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital where she was declared deceased, according to TMZ.
Disneyland influencer Matt Desmond shared the news, stating that the guest "suffered a heart attack on Haunted Mansion Holiday." He observed that as riders were preparing to exit the attraction, the woman was unresponsive, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.
The attraction resumed operations shortly afterward, with authorities confirming no indications of mechanical issues with the ride. Sergeant Matt Sutter of the Anaheim Police Department described the incident as "an unfortunate medical episode."
The exact cause of death remains undisclosed. While initial investigations suggest a heart attack, investigators await the results of an autopsy and further medical examination before making a final determination.
According to Disney's website, the Haunted Mansion ride is considered safe for children despite featuring "mildly frightening scenes." The theme park informs guests that while supernatural creatures appear throughout the attraction, they are portrayed as friendly entities.
Unlike high-intensity attractions with dramatic drops or high speeds, the Haunted Mansion is known for its slow-moving "doom buggies" that transport guests through dimly lit gothic environments with gentle scares.
Experts note that such low-intensity attractions are less likely to create physical stress that might increase the risk of sudden medical emergencies.
This tragedy follows another recent fatal incident at a Florida theme park, where a 32-year-old man died after riding a roller coaster at Epic Universe.
Kevin Rodriguez Zavala, who used a wheelchair due to spinal disability, lost consciousness while on a ride at the newly opened Epic Universe theme park in Florida. He was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to a local hospital.
