Taiwanese Man Wins Rs 37 Lakh Compensation After Wife's Workplace Affair: Legal Battle Over Marital Rights

A man from Taiwan has filed a lawsuit against his wife's lover, demanding approximately Rs 1 crore as compensation. Wei (a pseudonym) claimed in his legal filing that his wife's extramarital affair caused him significant emotional distress and violated his marital rights.

The situation began in 2022 when Wei's wife, referred to as Jie, engaged in an affair with a colleague named Yong. Both worked at a school in Kaohsiung, where Jie was employed as a teacher and Yong served as the head of the accounting department. According to Mothership, they maintained a secret romantic and sexual relationship.

The couple frequently met at hotels to spend time together. Their relationship involved exchanging messages with sexual content and photographs. In their private communications, they often addressed each other as "husband" and "wife."

Wei discovered the affair in 2023 and claimed the revelation triggered panic attacks. Consequently, he decided to pursue legal action, seeking 800,000 Yuan (approximately Rs 99.6 lakh) in damages.

During court proceedings, Yong attempted to defend himself by claiming he was unaware of Jie's marital status. The court rejected this argument, noting that as the head of accounting, Yong had access to Jie's application for children's financial aid, which would have revealed her marital status.

The court ruled that Yong had indeed violated Wei's marital rights through the affair. Considering that Yong earned substantially more than Wei, the judge ordered him to pay 300,000 Yuan (approximately Rs 37 lakh) in compensation. Yong retains the right to appeal this decision.

Wei and Jie married in 2006 and have two children together.

In a separate case last year, another Taiwanese man filed for divorce after his wife began demanding payment for intimate relations. The husband stated that his wife had gradually restricted their physical relationship over the years. By 2017, she limited intimacy to once monthly, and by 2019, she refused physical contact entirely without explanation. The situation deteriorated further when, in 2021, she began charging him fees for sexual relations or even conversation.
