Violent Confrontation at New York Costco Leaves Shopper Injured in Shopping Cart Dispute

A 42-year-old shopper required medical treatment for injuries to his forehead and eyelid following a violent incident at a New York Costco.

On Sunday afternoon, tensions flared at the Sunset Park Costco when two couples became embroiled in a heated argument over a shopping cart. The disagreement quickly turned violent inside the Third Avenue superstore near 37th Street around 3:50 p.m., according to the New York Post.

Shocking video footage documented the altercation as it escalated. The recording shows one man striking another shopper before pushing a woman aside who was heard pleading, "Do not touch him! Do not push him!" The victim collapsed to the floor after being punched, striking his head against a shopping cart.

The woman accompanying the injured man frantically called for help, shouting "Call the police!" in both English and Spanish. Following the assault, the victim was transported to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn for medical care, while the assailant left the premises.

The incident was captured on video and shared on social media.

Fellow Costco shoppers have attributed the confrontation partly to the store's overcrowded conditions. Yizhou Jiang, a customer interviewed by ABC 7, noted: "There's a lot of tension here, from the parking lot to inside, it's like there's limited space there, it seems like there's limited resources, which is ironic, but I'm not terribly surprised."

Gary Mirabelle, another Costco member, shared similar sentiments: "I see the frustration on the people's faces when they're shopping, too. It's tough to come here and shop and, you know, you want to get in, and you want to get out."
