Sergio Gor: From Trump Aide to US Ambassador to India - Senate Confirms 38-Year-Old as New Envoy

The US Senate has confirmed Sergio Gor as the next Ambassador of the United States to India. The 38-year-old secured approval in a single en bloc vote on Tuesday, with 51 senators supporting his nomination while 47 opposed, even amid the ongoing US government shutdown.

Gor, who currently serves as Director of Presidential Personnel, was nominated by US President Donald Trump in August. In addition to his ambassadorial role, he will function as Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs.

The same confirmation process approved Paul Kapur as Assistant Secretary of State for South Asian Affairs and Anjani Sinha as Ambassador to Singapore.

Born as Sergey Gorokhovsky on November 30, 1986, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, then part of the Soviet Union, Gor relocated to Malta as a child. His family immigrated in 1999, after which he completed his high school education in Los Angeles. According to his LinkedIn profile, Gor is a graduate of George Washington University where he actively participated in College Republicans and established the campus chapter of Young America's Foundation.

His political career began with supporting John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign and working for the Republican National Committee. Gor subsequently served as spokesman and communications director for several Representatives including Steve King, Michele Bachmann, and Randy Forbes. In 2013, he joined Senator Rand Paul's PAC, RANDPAC, where he progressed to roles including spokesman, communications director, and deputy chief of staff.

By 2020, Gor had become chief of staff for the Trump Victory Finance Committee before working alongside Donald Trump Jr. as both consultant and book publisher. Together, Gor and Trump Jr. established Winning Team Publishing, releasing several books about Donald Trump.

Beyond his political career, Gor also worked as an amateur DJ, performing at events including those at Mar-a-Lago.

In 2022, he took on roles as senior advisor to MAGA Inc. and led the PAC Right for America. Trump appointed him director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office in November 2024. His August nomination as US Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs culminated in October with Senate confirmation as the next Ambassador to India.
