Queen Camilla To Miss Royal Funeral Due To Illness
Buckingham Palace announced that Queen Camilla has withdrawn from attending the Duchess of Kent's funeral on Tuesday due to her recovery from acute sinusitis, just hours before US President Donald Trump's scheduled state visit.
The 78-year-old queen is expected to join King Charles III for a series of royal engagements during Trump's visit on Wednesday and Thursday.
"Her Majesty The Queen has withdrawn with great regret from today's Requiem Mass for The Duchess of Kent as she continues to recover from acute sinusitis," a spokesperson from Buckingham Palace stated.
According to PA news agency, Camilla is hoping to recover in time to participate in all planned activities during Trump's state visit.
She is scheduled to welcome the Trumps alongside the king at Windsor Castle on Wednesday at approximately noon local time (1100 GMT).
The Duchess of Kent, who passed away at age 92 on September 5, was married to Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, a cousin of Queen Elizabeth II, since 1961.
The funeral service was planned for Tuesday at Westminster Cathedral with the attendance of the 76-year-old king, who continues his cancer treatment, as well as Prince William and Princess Catherine.
This marks the first Catholic funeral for a member of the British royal family in modern British history.
