Two Hyderabad Natives Die in Separate US Incidents Within 48 Hours: Road Accident and Shooting Claim Young Lives

A 25-year-old Indian national lost his life in a road accident in the United States on Sunday. Sheraz Mehtab Mohammed, originally from the Chanchalguda area in Hyderabad, Telangana, was involved in a fatal accident in Evanston, a Chicago suburb in Illinois. According to initial reports, Mohammed had only recently moved to America seeking better career opportunities.

The tragic news has been communicated to his family in Hyderabad. His father, Altaf Mohammed Khan, stated that arrangements are currently being made to transport Mohammed's remains back to India.

This incident marks the second death of a Hyderabad native in the United States within just 48 hours. On Friday, 27-year-old Chandrashekar Pole was fatally shot during an armed attack at a Dallas, Texas gas station where he was working.

Pole's family has requested government assistance to repatriate his body to Hyderabad. A dental surgery graduate, Pole had moved to the United States in 2023 to pursue higher education. He had completed his master's degree six months prior to the incident and was working part-time at the gas station while searching for full-time employment opportunities.

"We received news of his death from his friend's parents who visited to share our grief. We appeal to both central and state governments to ensure the safety of Indians abroad and facilitate the return of my son's remains as quickly as possible," Pole's mother, Sunitha, told ANI news agency.

The Consulate General of India (CGI) in Houston, which has jurisdiction over Texas, has confirmed they are in contact with Pole's family and providing all possible assistance. "The Consulate General of India, Houston, deeply condoles the tragic death of Mr. Chandrasekhar Pole, an Indian student from Hyderabad, who was killed in a shooting incident in Denton, Texas. We are maintaining contact with the family and extending all possible support. Local authorities are investigating the incident, and we are closely monitoring developments," the consulate stated.
