Lottery Winner Hospitalized with Pulmonary Embolism After Spending Spree: "Money Doesn't Matter in an Ambulance"

A 39-year-old Michigan man who won $1.3 million from a scratch-off lottery ticket ended up hospitalized with a life-threatening pulmonary embolism after three months of non-stop partying, luxury purchases, and travel. Adam Lopez now reflects on his near-death experience, stating that wealth becomes meaningless when facing serious health issues.

US Man, Who Won Rs 17 Crore Lottery, Hospitalised After Non-Stop Partying

A lottery winner from Michigan found himself hospitalized after an extended period of excessive celebration following his $1.3 million (approximately Rs 17 crore) scratch-off ticket win.

Adam Lopez, a 39-year-old forklift operator, purchased a lottery ticket spontaneously at a local convenience store and struck it rich. Initially skeptical about his windfall, Lopez confirmed his good fortune with his mother, at which point the reality of his life-changing win became clear, according to BBC reports.

Though Lopez initially planned to invest a substantial portion of his winnings in savings to secure his future, his intentions soon gave way to extravagance.

The Wayne County resident promptly resigned from his job and embarked on a three-month spree of traveling, purchasing luxury vehicles, and engaging in continuous partying.

By September, Lopez's health deteriorated dramatically. He was hospitalized with bilateral pulmonary embolism, a serious condition where a blood clot from his leg traveled to his lungs, The New York Post reported.

Lopez described the medical emergency as a "massive wake-up call," revealing that during his more than eight-day stay at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in England, he "could not walk, could not breathe."

"I think I approached it incorrectly, but it allowed me to experience a lifestyle I've never known before. It was enjoyable until my health became compromised," Lopez admitted.

He characterized the experience as a "kick up the backside," explaining, "It became apparent about three weeks ago... with a blood clot in my leg which spread to my lungs."

"I called an ambulance, was wheeled from my house into the vehicle, and the most profound life-changing moment was lying in the back of that ambulance hearing the sirens," he recounted.

The lottery winner now faces a six to nine-month recovery period, during which he intends to prioritize his health and return to "the full version of me."

"It really makes you consider both perspectives on life because whether you have one million, 100 million, a billion, or a trillion - when you're in the back of an ambulance, none of that wealth matters," he reflected.
